 Thanksgiving
It is that time of year the temptation
Is to fly straight into the Christmas rush.
Television has started the mad dash;
Stores have up the garlands and greens.
Am I a scrooge to wait another week?
Entering winter, I pause… Thanksgiving.
Growing in the fertile soil of thankfulness
Is an attitude of gratitude; I desire to reflect.
Not the turkey, the cranberries, the pumpkin pie;
No, not even the Pilgrim's story or religiousness.
Simply the quiet stillness; appreciating the fullness
That we enjoy in our lives...Thanksgiving.
With a song of joy, my heart sings out today;
Thankful for the breath that dwells in my soul.
Thankful for the validity of a life lived with grace;
Embracing the greater purpose at work always.
The warmth of peace prepares me for the winter;
Celebrate Christmas fully, but first… Thanksgiving.
