 reflections

I saw you peeking (through my window pane)

I saw you peeking
through my window pane
I saw you smiling
in the pouring rain
saw tiny footsteps
in the crisp white snow
watched you dancing
in the streets below

I saw you peeking
through my front door
I saw you standing
on my living room floor
saw tiny tears
from your big brown eyes
and asked myself
of all the reasons why

I saw you peeking
through my letter box
I saw you stutter
like the hands of clocks
saw tiny thoughts
form like drops of dew
and dreamed a dream
of a love that grew

I saw you peeking
through my garden gate
I saw you shiver
and felt my heart race
saw tiny wishes
wrapped in silk cocoons
and gave my heart
to the sky the moon

then you stopped peeking
through my life one night
and I never saw you
in the morning light
never saw you
on those nights I cried
you never saw me
no matter how I tried
you never saw me
in the pouring rain
then I saw you peeking
through my window pane
