I walked my sister to her car to tell her goodbye
She is going to spend the day with her daughter
I wandered back into the house to the smell of fresh coffee
My daughter is in the kitchen getting ready for today
My son is asleep on the sofa
his dog by his side

I choke back tears that have fallen so heavily the last few days

We told my silver haired honey goodbye yesterday at the cemetery
I went back later to tell him goodnight - the sky was a perfect blue
Wild geese in silver Vs were flying across the sky
almost like a salute to my love
Jet planes were flying high
leaving their vapor trails - they too seem to be saying goodbye
Multi colored leaves were falling with the soft blow of the wind
preparing for winter long sleep

My finger now caress the flag that covered his casket
I put his jacket to my face to be warmed by his smell
God has blessed me so richly
Not many know the deep abiding love that we shared
I know that we will meet again
this life here on earth is only the beginning

Today is Thanksgiving and I say
Thank you, Heavenly Father for letting me share my
life with my silver haired honey
For the wonderful children we have
For my friends and family
For my Church family
AND most of all
Our Saviour Jesus Christ
Who sees us through the valley of the shadow of death
