No matter where I am these days
No matter what I am about to do~
Nothing much can stop me in my tracks
Like an old country song it's true~
The very way they once sang them
Every cord and lyric from the start~
Told of something we all could relate to
Of all the tears and pain of heart~
So many times in my past
When the saddest things in life would be~
There was always a country song
That there and then hit the spot for me~
And even now no matter what I'm doing
And not to I've often tried~
I'll sometimes hear an old country song
And I've actually sat down and cried~
It took me right back to a time and place
I've tried so hard to forget I confess~
But along comes a country song of old
And right there and then I am again a mess~
Some scars in life they never heal it's true
Regardless how we try~
But some old country songs will be
With us until the day we die~
I've heard an old song playing
And got up and walked outside~
As nobody can sing those songs now anymore
Not like most of them that have since died~
Those old country songs were the music of a soul
That every country soul they knew~
And each one brought back a memory
Of what each one of us had been through~
And even now when I'm not suspecting
There'll come along an old country song~
And it transports me back to a time and place
Where I once had been and did so then belong~
My face will change as I sit right then
As a time and a memory appears once ag'en
Nothing can stop me right within my tracks
Like some old country songs of way back when~
