Musings by The Poet Loriet

With One Line

With One Line

It all started with one line -

desire,
unspoken yet undeniable,
encircled their orations
like a halo
as they talked in the stairwell
of the library.

Two poets dreamed in harmony,
bubbling with the effervescence of thought
upon silk sheets of paper,
mussing them up as they danced
with similes, meter and rhyme.

They alliterated to couplets
and the beat of their own drum.
Their pens raged with a passionate
release of the clandestine
thoughts that fueled their days
as they forsake sleep
in lieu of their need
for expression.

They longed for their
souls to connect
one whispered word at a time,
deep in the heart
of the night.

Bathed in meanings
and poetic words,
they read between
each other's lines,
blended with shadows
and silently loved...

Words became their escape,
then became their fire.
