Ever since I was a young boy I've so loved history
But how many rearrange it from how it all should be
Those rearranging history over time should be liable
Look what some have done in time rewriting the bible
But one form of honest to goodness still living history
Would have to be Gods very gift the gift of a tree
In a tree there's a record of time in many ways to see
That it's story cannot be rearranged or rewritten thus to be
In life different strokes they say for different folks
Well I've learned differently all my life long it's so
As well as with so many trips around this very world
So much to see and learn the facts of life as you go
There's trees all over this world so vast and wide
But one I came to admire more than others in a way
It's the age old English Oak tree so brilliant still
And it's living history in it's magnificence today
I've seen some of the oldest that are there in England
The oldest Major Oak in Sherwood forest is there still
Surviving wonderfully thanks to some that actually care
And thanks to them hopefully survive it always will
So much of our life's history has been so changed
So many living now feel it would be better if they did
And due to mostly today's love live and let live thinking
Many things in our history from the records have now slid
But one of the most beautiful forms of living history
Has been just honestly growing right through the ages
Unlike ever so much rearranged documentation today
The humble God given gift the tree has not lost any pages
Out of all the trees I've admired ever so in my travels
Would have to be no other than the beautiful English oak
If only it could talk and tell in voice all it's stories
I would sit under with open ears hear every word it spoke
