Sam's Final Jump

Sam was strong and he was quick,
he showed much talent using a candlestick.
Sam would leap high jumping over the flame
and he'd land on his feet while the crowd yelled his name.

He was well-known wherever he went
and he often practiced for the next big event.
Many years passed and Sam was getting old
but he still wanted to leap for the honor of Gold.

The candlestick shone bright with a large flame
and his mind was focused on winning the game.
Sam flew into the air, arms toward the sky,
he fell short of his leap and some started to cry.

His pants touched the flame while up in the air
and he fell from the sky in his underwear.
People threw water as Sam lay on the ground,
the fire was put out and he looked all around.

The crowd became silent as he looked away
embarassed from the experience of such a bad day.
Sam knew it was the end of his jumping career
so, he headed home with a sigh and a tear.

He was upset with himself for losing the game
and he knew that his life would never be the same.
Sam made it home, his head hung in despair,
then he quietly died as he sat in his chair.
