I Shall Return

I Shall Return

In the cold dark night
his heart fell from his chest
I guess, he ran about ten miles
away from danger, unseen.

His eyes were sullen
His cheeks were pale
His hands were frozen
His ears were red

When I saw him from the window
I trembled and I cried
I could not bare to look upon him
with my eyes

His clothes were tattered
His shoes were dusty
His lips were crusty
His teeth were yellow

He stood under the street light.
The moon was full and bright.
I saw him peering at the window above
He knew I was there watching him
He could feel his heart
drumming again

I heard him yell
I must leave,
but;
I shall return!

Suddenly,
I saw him
fade away
into the dark and cold night.
