The morning sky would bring the rain
Drawing first blood from U S veins
Some still asleep, while others dressed
To sounds of planes surprise no less
Bombs were dropped, Torpedoes skimmed
Below surface of warships brim
Here where peace became disturbed
As sirens wailed drowning occurred
Metal tested our one resolve
Survive attack not fail the Stars
Of Flag that flew on isle that day
Would be more cause leading the way
Bushwhacked, by air soldiers did fire
To ward off, hit, splashing quagmire
This heinous act, Rising Suns fire
The Blue skies dark with smoke of guns
The need for cover, to man the guns
Where strafing came relentless too
Taking out life of war ship crews
Return fire from rifles staged
On wounded arms of men engaged
As birds of prey swooped down that day
Out gunned were those slaughtered price payed
Planes not one could leave the ground
They too took fire as bombs would pound
Airfield, Runways, Hangers once sound
All these ablaze, fighters all down
Relentless was an understatement
Mercy no cause by cowards blatant
Thank God for fuel this flight of birds
Retreat to ships not seen nor heard
The day became as one would say
A day of infamy Japan had staged
Knowing quite well by one Admiral
Speaking these words deep thoughts casual
"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."
