Unexpected Angelic AnnouncementWhat would your response be today If unexpected news came your way Mary, a virgin, to Joseph engaged By Jewish law binding as marriage Mary was with child by the Holy Spirit When Joseph, a righteous man, heard it He determined to put her away secretly Not wanting to disgrace her publicly An angel appeared to Joseph in a dream This was the message that he gave to him “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid To take Mary as your wife,” he said “For that which has been conceived In her is of the Holy Spirit,” he said She will bear a Son, call His name Jesus He will save His people from their sins This took place to fulfill prophecy by the Lord “Behold the virgin shall be with child,” as told “And they shall call His name Immanuel,” “God with us” in the flesh with man to dwell Joseph arose from his sleep and took Mary as his wife Kept her a virgin until the Son in her womb brought life They called Him Jesus obeying the angel's command His destiny the cross, paying for all the sins of man At the beginning of the poem, I asked a question This year, I faced such an unexpected situation After over sixteen years at the same company My position was downsized the end of February God continues to supply my needs from day to day With help of unemployment benefits along the way Grateful for prayers and support of my church family Only God knows the future in my job search journey In October, an issue with unemployment resurfaced From a four-day temp job end of March I accepted Potential penalty of thirteen week benefit reduction Telephone hearing with Judge to make determination © Carol S. for Christmas 2011 Based on Matthew 2:18-25, Isaiah 7:14, and phrase from John 1:14 at end of 5th stanza.
