Christmas in the Dark

In the middle of the night
I heard a scratching sound,
The room was pitch dark
and I felt my way around.

The tree lights were off
and I was feeling blind,
I walked a bit unsteady
not knowing what I'd find.

Suddenly I took a step
going the wrong way,
I slid down each step
to the floor where I lay.

I needed a flashlight
to find my way to bed,
in my new surroundings
the darkness was my dread.

I couldn't see the switch
to turn on a nearby light,
I stumbled over boxes
and hoped for better sight.

Then my arm flung up
and I stopped another fall,
I accidently hit the switch
and lights glowed in the hall.

I heard a nearby sound
that gave me quite a scare,
among the mess I left
on the floor everywhere.

I complained of the dark
and the boxes in my way,
even other objects on the floor
that I forgot to put away.

May there be eyes that see
through the darkest night.
With every Merry christmas
a peace that shines so bright.

Let goodness be a guide
for people everywhere,
the voice of many angels
caroling in the frosty air.

Kindness is worth sharing
in the nice words that we say
let Christmas be a blessing
in each and every way.
