Last roads

Started secondary school way back in days of yore.
That’s how it feels, when I ponder on those days.
Then I think about a great guy I met back then.

ain't it surprising how time slips away

Sure it only seems like yesterday.
Jim Magee is his name; one of life’s gentlemen.
He wasn’t the sort of guy you would say boo too.
Big and strong even way back then.

Ain't it surprising how time slips away

Four years in the same class together
The big gentle guy never raised his hand to anyone.
A smile and a shout, that’s how we knew Jim was about.
Never let on he could sing a good song.

Ain't it surprising how time slips away

Changed his name from Jim to Shay
Started singing along on the cabaret.............
Never once struck a bum note, at least none I recall.
Now Jim is ill, a great man brought low.

Ain't it surprising how time slips away

A smile and a joke is how he copes.
Those days of yore may be long gone.

Ain't it surprising how time slips away

But Jim as a boy had the strength of a man.
He shows it today, when he declares, I’ll live till I die.
Jim Magee, Shay Young, you'll always be one of
lifes true heroes, guys like you are few and far between.

Ain't it surprising how time slips away
