In the Big  Lake Country

You can take a pole
to the big lake country
tie on a string
drop your line deep in the water
but you won't catch a thing
no, there ain't no fishes
in the big lake country
where the water is mighty and plenty
but the big lakes are all dirty
and the rain falls large
and the rain falls hard
but the big water makes the leaves turn brown
and maybe the grass grows
but the land is scarred
the big water is no longer wholesome
in the big lake country
so don't take a pole and line with you
and expect to catch a squirming fishy
nothing, no nothing is
like Mother Nature ever intended
many big lakes burn bright green
Mother Nature's purposes are all upended
by the greedy modern age and its monster alchemy
so don't take a pole
with you when you go visiting
to the big lake country
where the fishes are all gone now
and the deer no longer stoop to drink
the birds have all moved on now
so the clouds are left alone to think
about what it was like not so very long ago
when the big water was pure enough to live in
and more than sweet enough to drink.

Woke up with this in my head...a young woman who called herself Girl 202 was singing a
sad song about the Big Lake Country.
