History: Cheryl, wanted to give Dennis something special to take with him on his deployment to Afghanistan. The boys are sad because he is leaving so close to Christmas but want their Dad to know they will watch over their Mom while he is gone.
A month before Christmas with long faces, teary and sad,
November 26th the Army will come for you, Dad.
Just to be clear, you're a true hero and we're proud of you,
But another tour of duty gives Christmas joy a dim view.
Sergeant First Class, Drill Sergeant Dennis Linn,
Off to Afghanistan, you're ready to spend
Four hundred long days and long nights.
For our freedom you might engage in fire fights.
We know how hard it will be for you and for us,
But there's no need to worry, fret, or fuss.
The good Lord watches o'er all and gave us a plan.
We are ready to be the men of your clan.
Four hundred days is a very long time for a lad
But one hundred days is not really that bad.
Each of us will take one hundred days to help Mom through.
Blake will take the first watch, then Alec will take watch number two.
Rocky watches third, then Storm takes it up last…
We've got you covered, no need to be downcast!
We know Mom'll keep the home fires burning for you.
If she grows weak, we'll come to her rescue,
But she'll stand strong for she's a real trooper
And that's the truth because she's really super!
Your little boys will be little men while you're gone.
Soon we will be together again and we'll be FAMILY STRONG!!
Remember, "Absence makes the heart grow stronger" they say…
400 days times 5 of us, ponder that while you're away.
It's a hint of how much more love we'll all share,
Always remember we love you and we care!!
Cheryl, Blake, Alec, Rocky and Storm
