 My today's thoughts

ABBA, FATHER

The theme of Galatians is Salvation by Grace
Paul the Apostle wrote this book of the Bible around 49 or 52 A.D.

ABBA, FATHER

Galatians 4: 4-7
King James Version

4. But when the fullness of the time had come,
God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

5. to redeem those who were under the law,
that we might receive the adoption as sons.

6. And because you are sons, God has sent forth
the Spirit of His Son into your hearts,
crying out, "Abba, Father!"

7. Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son,
and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

This is my understanding of what these Scriptures mean.

I do not claim to be all knowing as I write this.
Some things in the Bible we take by faith.

V4. When the fullness of the time had come,
God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law.

In the Old Testament God gave the
Ten Commandments to Moses.
It was the law they were to live under.
There was no way they could keep these laws.
The laws were like a mirror held up to see that they were
in need of a Redeemer who would be able to help
them and forgive them when they failed.

God's time table is not our time table.

When God's time was right, God sent
His Son, JESUS to be our  REDEEMER.
God sent forth His Son, born of a woman.
He was born of a woman who lived under the
Old Testament law. Mary was in need of a Savior,
A REDEEMER too.

V5. To redeem those who were under the law,
that we might receive the adoption as sons.

Why did God need to do this?  It was to redeem mankind.
Redeem means a price had to be paid for the
debt to be forgiven, Paul is talking about the sin debt
that had to be paid for a person to be forgiven.

When that sin debt (price) is paid, mankind can be
adopted into the family of God.
Here the word adoption does not mean the same thing
as it means to us. Today an adoption can be
overturned by a court. In that day when a child was adopted
into a family it was forever.
It could not be undone. There was not anyway to give
a child back after he/she was adopted.

This is a special blessing to us who are
Gentiles (all who are not Jewish).  In the Old Testament we
could never be redeemed for we are not Jewish.
We now in the New Testament have been
grafted into the body of Christ, the REDEEMDER. Roman 11:19

He paid the full price for my sins and yours on the cross.
We are His adopted children.  We are now the Children of God.
For those of us who believe in Jesus as our personal Savior
we are now His sons and or daughters.

V6.  Because we are now sons or daughters,
God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts,
crying out, " Abba, Father!".

Because of Christ's death on the Cross, and His resurrection,
He paid the sin debt for those of us who believe in Him and
confess our sins.  We are now God's children.

The word Abba has a very special meaning.  It means father or daddy.
I don't intend to be sacrilegious,  but it means,
we can crawl into God's lap and
say,  "Father, or Daddy I have a problem.
I need for you to take care of it for me".
I do not intend this be irreverent.  I think God should
always be shown the highest of respect.
BUT, I also know that any
time of the day or night we can go to God our Father,
through Jesus our Savior and bring our petitions (our requests), to Him.

V7. Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son,
and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Paul is saying we who believe and accept
the Gift of Salvation that God gives us through
Jesus Christ are now God's heir.

We Christian are beneficiaries of all that
God gives to His Children
through Jesus the Christ. It is a free gift.
It is offered to anyone who accepts
Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

It is my prayer that all who read this will believe.
