Unseen Battle Scars

Hidden from view buried deep in the soul
Those unhealed scars that linger inside
In that abyss that is dark as coal
Eating away at ones being and pride

Things that can not be brought to light
The horrible pain aching with no relief
Memories of times when you had to fight
Thoughts of the past that only bring grief

Lost in many dark and lonely thoughts
Suffering things no man should have to endure
There where air is filled with thundering gunshots
Sometimes not really understanding so unsure

Sweat filled nights and dreams that are haunting
Sleepless nights and days that never go away
Unseen battle scars deep and  still bleeding
Searching for peace so badly needed for which we pray

God grant us some long and earned rest
Guide us from the sorrow and pain into the light
Draw us with your gentle hand to your chest
Hold us and keep us safe from the dark of night
