Friday night I saw the play The Sound of Music
Complete with orchestra it was really fantastic
Performed in the chapel of a Christian university
Props and cast costumes perfect in their entirety
Seeing the movie years ago, I had forgot the plot
Much of the story was new and touched me a lot
Here are a few highlights and lessons I took away
I trust you will be equally blessed in some way
When Maria returned to the convent late one night
Also found singing during a time or place not right
The nuns all gathered together to decide what to do
Considering the best for Maria not to punish her too
Maria was told to spend time away from the abbey
To discover if monastery life for her was meant to be
Sent to live with a widower of children numbering seven
It would be a new adventure with many challenges even
Their father seemed very strict to Maria in many ways
As captain in the navy, often gone for a period of days
Maria responsible for schooling lessons she did teach
Passing on her love of music, their hearts she reached
Returning home, once their father found them at play
They came inside all dirty and dressed a strange way
He spoke cross words to Maria asking her to explain
After doing so, the children sang for him very plain
He thanked Maria for bringing music back in his home
It brought memories of his wife with her voice in song
Soon Maria sensed his feelings for her and was afraid
Left without saying goodbye going to the abbey one day
Surprised at her return, Maria talked to the Mother Abbess
Told her to face her fears or she would never know at last
She sang to Maria Climb Every Mountain from her heart
Went back encouraged to let love flow freely on her part
Later they were married and then news from a telegram
Captain was to report for naval duty in a very short time
His departure would be after the family sang at a festival
After their performance, they escaped showing their refusal
How much greater is God's love for us that He imparts
All who believe in Him, His Spirit dwells in their heart
I was reminded with God I can conquer any mountain
Trusting His promises in His Word His strength I gain
