THE GILDED CAGE  


  

  


THE GILDED CAGE

Is a cage a place of safety or a prison
I suppose it is  the way one looks at it

Some rooms in fine elegant homes are beautiful
The furnishings can be expensive and lavish but they are cages

A person can be tethered by invisible chains
of fear and of love

If one does not feel they can leave when they wish
it can become a prison

If the cage is a home for an animal or bird
 it can become a place of refuge

A place of safety to retreat in
when they are threatened

****************************************

Sometimes when a person's loved one is terminally ill
they are afraid to leave them alone

Often the illness lingers for several years
Soon it becomes a habit to stay with their loved one

They can become tethered by emotions
afraid to leave for fear their loved one will die while they are away

****************************************

It makes no difference how elegant the gilded cage is
If it is a home or a bird cage it is still a cage

It is designed to hold something
or someone captive

Is a cage a place of safety or a prison
I suppose it is the way one looks at it
