Your Blissful Soul - *A HYMN TO THE ANCIENT MOTHER DURGA*

Mother Ancient! Be gracious!
Goddess Durga! Be victorious!
O Mother! Be pleased to wander in my heart
And destroy the calamities which deeply pierce me,
So that, free from dangers, protected by Your lotus feet
My swan-like mind may rejoice in the Ocean of bliss!

Goddess of victory, be gracious to-day to me,
As I am yearning to kiss Your sweet lotus feet,
The one and only abode of the essence of nectar.
Let my heart rest in meditation on Your lotus feet
Worshiped by lord of the universe, and other gods!
O Devi, if I am engaged in contemplation of Your feet,
What matters it if I know not any other Sacred place?
May Your lotus feet be ever present to my mind
As they are the wealth of my wounded heart!

Verily, Shiva, the Great God would be maddened
If He had not enjoyed the blissful embrace of Thee
Had He not enjoyed the lotus fragrance of Thy feet,
Full of honey where by the moon on His crest
Turned cool and it is ever dripping sweet nectar!

As I am drowning in the endless ocean of illusion,
Without the taste of nectar of the divine bliss,
Which dispels the mental afflictions from miseries
May Your glory, O Devi, dark as collyrium cloud,
Be ever in my heart, with millions of cool rays
Whose substance is great wisdom and divine bliss,
Dispels the darkness that overspread my heart!

I meditate on the auspicious form of Durga
Holding in Her hands the discus, lance, shield,
Axe, arrow, bow, and trident and making the gesture
To dispel my fears;and with Her long matted hair
Like a bank of cloud covering Her face most beautiful.
O Devi! Your faultless form was worshiped by the gods
And to them, conquering demons You bestowed Paradise;
They, too, have acquired nectar, the divine wisdom,
And power to arrest, banish and slay their enemies!

Salutations to Durga, the Goddess of victory!
Whosoever, meditating upon Her lotus feet
Utters this hymn, they shall be blessed by Her
Wealth, fulfillment of desire, and liberation!
