Personal Effects

The clothing I've sent to the hospice.
Any money they can raise there
Will help to continue their project
Of giving help and support and care.
I've kept some jewellery for the babies
So a bit later when they're more grown
Each can have their own keepsake
Of the granny none of them has known.
I've altered the furniture just slightly
To reflect the sad change in my life
Of a man who's struggling but trying
To cope with the great loss of a wife.
And I don't cry quite so often,
Started to sleep more at night;
Maybe I've turned the corner,AC
Maybe started to see the light.
Her picture smiles from the bookcase
As though she's pleased with the start
Of my trying to keep living on without
The woman who'd captured my heart.
