Oh! Water

We waste it now it is a concern we all sit and wonder
How long will it take before we are going to be short of water?
But if we neglect those signs and continue on this path where we squander
Then this situation will come upon us a few years earlier

As a boy will observe that care displayed by my grandmother
And the way she used the water with such precision and in a measured manner
Making sure that it serves the purpose for what she was doing
And in the process any spilling was kept to the very minimum

To collect she had to walk such a great distance away
Always took us along as she made this trip during the day
Used it to do those things, like cooking washing and bathing the skins
That distance alone really instituted such prudence when using

Those times too, houses were few and lots of water was around
There were springs, ponds and many streams could be found
Now development has increased they disappeared and the demand is more
And not those reservoirs levels are even taking that dip now for sure

Hoe people with prized gardens, watered using a watering can
Now today lawns are water prodigiously for long hour at an end
As homes now have water and this necessity is so accessible
So people in a household seem not to exert any type of hydrophilic control

There are some places where they may soon face a shortage
Other place seem not to get the message and scale down their wastage
Perhaps the need is now become evident, to build homes with waster storing capacity
So as to capture rain water to be used in those areas not needing any purity

But what seem to the thing that today is such a surprise to me
That most of those who were taught to or had to use water prudently
Did not pass on this lesson, or instill it in their children
But when they see that high water bill, will go down to the office complaining
