You Made Me Feel  (Just Like 20)

I'm writing a poem about you.
It is as soft as the laugh lines that
crease your face into a thousand variations of
folding origami joy.
Your smile erasing the bends of hardship,
a changing river altering and moving
the daily silts of hardship and strife.
You have been my water and my life.
Your smile moves and undulates, moving me into the
singular edges of you.
Your sweet tugging grin
eyes so playful they could invite a stranger in,
to stop and linger,
to make a conversation begin.
And make her forget where she's stepped,
how she ached just a moment ago,
and how she feels comforted again.
You made quite an impression. You still do.
Let others cynically roll their eyes and decry
the sawdust love-mush of valentines.
But I am glad that you have been mine.
And that I got to feel the renewed blush of love
at nearly 40
and that you made me feel
just like 20.
