Men of War

Try to see War through their eyes
"I know what you mean" would be a lie
Shots ring out, emotions flaring,
these sounds are not of my understanding
Hostile people of an unfamiliar land,
these sights I do not know firsthand.
I eagerly listen to stories told
by the Men of War, brave and bold.

Sleeping? at times, they just might,
to never complain of a restless night.
Pray these men proceed with caution,
Kill or be Killed is their only option.
In body bags, pieces or on their own,
this is how these Men come home,
to be subjected to chastising and criticism,
from those who are ignorant in patriotism.

A simple thank you is all that's needed,
from all of us who enjoy our Liberty.
Most forget who puts their lives on the line,
To protect and defend what's rightfully mine?
For the rest of us who love these Men,
We possess the understanding to appreciate them
I know it's not much, what more could I do?
But from my Free heart... Thank You.
