Not Fear
As a growing lad I sometimes found little on bother
In disobeying an order given to me by my mother
One like when she forbade me from going to the sea
You can be that in time that is the very place I will be
But believe me it was very hard to resist its invitation
Living so close it beautiful waters were always in my line of vision
Perhaps too if I had always obeyed and kept myself in
Then I may not at that time be able to swim
We all understand that as mother she would always care
But sometimes is it wise to get a message over using fear
So instead of saying when you go try to be careful my son
Not “do not go into the sea, if you do you will drown.”
But not matter what, my spirit of adventure which is part of my nature
So as my swimming got better and stronger, I even venture further
In time added diving, fishing and riding those wave at surfing too
Enjoying those outdoor moment, not sitting around like what today's do
But in contrast my older brother acceded to here talk of fear
He would sometimes come to the shore by never dare
Would report my disobedience, but up to the moment as I wrote
He cannot in water float or for that matter execute a single swimmer's stroke
Parents it's you duty to love, care as well as prepare
Your children for life but do not make it uncomfortable with fear
Show the options, outcomes even consequences, whatever may be possible
Even introduce measures of safety to apply when they are applicable
