MY LIFE IS NOT MUCH DIFFERENT THAN YOURS MY FRIEND
In answer to Always a Warrior post
Some differences I would suppose
In high school I had already joined
The Washington State National Guard
A weekend Army Warrior
Two weeks boot camp in Yakima
Like you college would be delayed
Unlike you not worried about the draft
My friends were threatening to go to Canada
First job I was building Boeing jets
At twenty I wanted more to be a Marine
One of the few and the proud and
Deaf in one ear with a crushed vertebrae
A gift from my Father's brutality
My father could beat women and children
But hid from serving in World War Two
All our lives are different in sameness
I was crushed--next stop Navy
At six three too tall for Submarine duty
Off we go into the wild blue yonder
I too joined the United States Air Force
It was a sad day they said you are a medic
But I got to go to Navy tech school
The drill instructor a Marine Sergeant.
So I served in four branches of service
I was twenty four when I went away to college
A top three basketball recruit
It appears someone appreciates height
Like you it was a little late to be in college
An associates degree I met the love of my life
So like you I began a different time to serve
All my kids have been in college and successful
My eldest Granddaughter a college graduate
Two more in college and the boys straight "A"s
I regret in no way my service to my country
I have faced near death twice and survived
I can even say with assurance I saved a life or two
I am here to praise all my fellow service veterans
In God we trust our veteran's we owe and bring them
home safe for they allow us to live in the land of freedom
