 Behind The Lines

I wasn't there when the war to end all wars began
I know my Great Uncle J.G. Came back a different man
Unable to cope with the world as it was anymore
No, he never was the same man he was before....

He and other such men were very special to me
Seeming to see things in a light I never could see
It was said they all developed a thousand yard stare
I'll never know what they went through...I wasn't there...

I wasn't there when the "Korean Conflict" broke out
My Uncle was, but he never said what it was all about
He surely was a lot quieter though when he returned
I think I was prouder than him of the medals he earned...

Far be it from me to delve into intricacies of Vietnam
All with a different viewpoint they were coming from
A good man is hard to find and these were very rare,
These Vietnam heroes...but once again, I wasn't there.....
