O Lord of the world, when You had incarnated
As Krishna; in your childhood days on the earth,
While playing with other boys once You stole away
Some fruits collected by them; they being angry
At your act, complained to Yasoda, your mother,
Concocting a story that You had eaten mud!

Your ignorant Mother,who didn't know that
You were the incarnation of Lord Vishnu,
Was very much frightened that You would
Fall ill by eating mud,and got angry with You.
She asked: O naughty boy,did you eat mud?-
Hearing these words, her charge you denied.
But she demanded: Dear boy, if you dare to
Deny this charge, then open your mouth!-

You then opened your little mouth even
As a lotus unfolds its petals;To your mother
Who tried to see traces of mud in your mouth,
As if to give her abundant satisfaction,O lord,
You revealed there in your mouth cavity,not only
The whole of the universe which existed, but
Also your divine form as the Cosmic Person
Which lies always in the Milk Ocean!

She was also blessed with the vision of your
Innumerable forms and many heavenly regions
In your mouth and had a flash of illumination,
But You, in order to retain her in the sense
Of worldly relation ship, You had enchanted her
By calling mother and embraced her as a child!

O Krishna, what a sweet child You were then!
O Great Vishnu, O Supreme Soul of the universe!
Deign to protect me from the illusion of the world
And bless me ever with your blissful vision!
