On the first cycle of waxing Moon
I meditate on Goddess Sri Lalita, who
Assumes the form of Kameswari!
~*~
O Kameswari, O Lady of desire!
You're the Goddess who grants all desires!
You're red in hue like ten million dawn Suns
Clad in red silks, wearing a diadem of rubies,
Bearing a crescent moon, You are splendidly
Shining with many ruby set necklaces, girdles
Bangles and anklets and many other ornaments.
Your eyes are beautiful with merciful benign glances
You are the Sovereignty of Divine Will for creation.
Kama, the God of love, who causes longing, madness
Of desire, kindling, enchanting and wasting, is under
Your control. Your splendor is of pure consciousness
That deadens the sex, yet You're granting happiness
Of the worldly enjoyments out of Your compassion!
Along with weapons You are holding a jeweled jar
Of nectar in order to bestow on us eternal life!
O Beloved of Shiva, O Kameswari, O Mother!
Protect us from the illusion of the world,
And grant us the Nectar of immortality!
