 Life Through His Eyes

After a long weekend with my grandson;
Four years old; wide eyed and wide open.
Experiencing his full personality up close;
Sensing so much difference from my youth.
His multi-media savvy blows my mind away;
Yet the need to be hugged still so strong.
Running around recreating the storyboards;
Playing with a released imagination engaged.
Yet there is always the “pause” button handy;
If I throw a curve into his best laid plans.
I enjoy the challenge of keeping up with him;
As well as the vision of life through his eyes.

After a while, I see correlation in our youth;
Our imaginations danced to different stories,
But the dance itself was the same creativity.
Colors vivid; battling dragons and bad guys;
Working together with a team to victory over
The evil forces that desire domination of life.
Always seeking the good, the beauty, the love;
Celebrating the raw goodness of this world.
I see the desire for thwarting the darkness;
The golden winged angels glistening in the sun.
I sense a connection to my grandson eternal;
As I experience this life through his eyes.

A youthful heart beats within my soul tonight;
Yet one very old feeling body as I played hard.
That 56 years of difference in our lives melts
Into this unified spirit of this fire for this life.
I become energized; my ideals are revived;
Becoming very hopeful in this world's future.
I sit here this evening, feeling a touch empty;
Yet I can hear his voice calling, “Let's play!”
I will sleep soundly tonight back in my bed;
Returning to my gym workouts that enable.
I will be recharge and ready the next time
When I experience this life through his eyes.
