Temp Job First Day Upon arrival checked in with receptionist Signing my name with 11 others on a list Waited awhile before being led in a door Up flight of stairs to the opposite corridor Brief tour brought us to our workstations Then morning training room destination Basic company policy on screen to review Scrolled through too fast to read it all too ID badges and rear mirror parking permits Many had pictures but received neither yet All with same agency I got mine last Thursday Time to place tags and move our cars anyway Two systems for project appeared on big screen Size of data boxes reduced so it could not be seen Couple hours later separate log-ons were available Each of us could follow along better it now enabled Went back to our workstations to start company training Security guidelines was the first segment but not finishing Earlier breakfast goodies were special treat for the first day Then catered lunch boxes as an added welcome all the way Mid afternoon data entry project of email spreadsheets began With list of 20 accounts and opportunity to ask questions again Comparing names or businesses from two searches of information Noting results on spreadsheets based on certain criteria designation Overall, I sense the first day, all things considered, went pretty well Any new temporary or permanent position has many stories to tell The project may last 8 weeks instead of 12 but still an estimation With 100 accounts each as a daily goal, not a concrete expectation © Carol S. 4/9/12 Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
