The Lily man

I saw the Lily man this morning
He was standing at the bottom of our road.
Strange! I thought its only march.
And he is carrying a heavy load.

As I passed him by our eyes met
And he gave a sort of knowing look.
A cold shudder ran right through me
Like when you're scared to turn the page
Of a scary book!

I turned into my drive
A firm grip upon my stick
Just got into the front door
And was greeted with a Kiss!

“You look tired this morning” my wife said
As turned away from the bacon in the frying pan.
She looked so graceful and radiant.
Yet my thoughts where with the Lily man

“A penny for them” She asked?
As she passed me the sandwich on the plate
I just smiled and said I love you
And hoping I had shut the gate.

“What shall we do today babe”
Why not get out your guitar?
We can sing some songs and make love
I thought my god after all these years I am still her shinning star.

But the Lily man came calling
Twas in the dead of night
Standing at my bedside
Clutching arums oh so tight!

Are those lilies for me I asked?
As calm as you would be in strife
Ney! the gaunt faced lily man said
I have come here for your wife!

I sat in bed bolt upright
And i raised my palm into his face.
“Now hold on “I said in a whisper
There has been some kind of mistake!

He gave me that look like this morning
But I was not having this.
I could feel my hand a shaking
It began to clench into a fist.

I said” can't this go into arbitration?”
Please take me in her stead?
And if so could we go down stairs
see I don't want my wife waking up to me lying dead in bed.

He tightened his grip on the lilies
And nodded a yes to me
I bent down and kissed my lover my friend.
It was my time to set her free.
