A FLICKER OF HOPE

A FLICKER OF HOPE

As the candle flickers in the big empty room
It casts dancing shadows in the gloom
Shapes that seem to dance, twist and turn
As the candle wax melts the taper will burn.

It`s eerie to watch the flame leap about
But it`s mesmerizing without a doubt
Such a small flame but a beacon of light
To shatter the density of the night.

As time passes the candle burns down
The flame gets smaller and I frown,
The room is getting darker it`s hard to see
`Please don`t go out` is my heavenly plea.

It`s hard to breathe as the flame burns low
It starts to flicker and I gasp `oh no!`
Terror grips my heart at the very thought
Total darkness! I become so fraught.

The darkness closes in around me
Is this happening can this really be?
As the flame struggles to stay alight
My worst nightmare is this plight.

There is no oxygen left in this room
I`m engulfed in darkness this is my tomb
I`ll die soon I won`t have long to wait
Claustrophobia will claim me it`s my fate.
