 In Remembrance

Five years ago today, a cry of pain;
Anguish in the town of Blacksburg.
Thirty-two people were shot to death,
Another twenty-five were wounded.

April 16th, 2007, Virginia Tech wept.
The shocked and profound sadness
I remember the images from this day.
West Amber Johnson, Norris Hall…

The bell will toll today in remembrance;

Ryan Clark, Emily Hilscher, Minal Panchal,
G.V. Loganathan, Jarrett Lane, Brian Bluhm,
Matthew Gwaltney, Jeremy Herbstritt,
Partahi Lumbantoruan, Daniel O'Neill,
Juan Ortiz, Julia Pryde, Waleed Shaalan,
Jamie Bishop, Lauren McCain, Maxine Turner,
Michael Pohle, Nicole White, Liviu Librescu,
Jocelyne Coulture-Nowak, Ross Alameddine,
Austin Cloyd, Daniel Perez Cueva, Henry Lee,
Caitlin Hammaren, Rachael Hill, Kevin Granata,
Matthew LaPorte, Erin Peterson, Leslie Sherman,
Mary Karen Read, Reema Samaha, all died…

Students, professors, each with a story to tell,
Silenced by madness, stilled by Seung-Hui Cho.
Repercussions still felt in universities today,
Five years later, we will pray in remembrance.
