A Star Is Born

“Why was I created different,”
Shelby Star asked of his mother.
“Why am I such a dim, dull star
With no sparkle like my brother?

Did my Creator miss the mark?
Mom, was there such demand for stars
That He did not take time for me?
Was maybe busy building Mars?

I simply cannot understand…
My friends just laugh at my dismay.
But it’s embarrassing to be
A burnout on the Milky Way.

I’m just a joke to other stars
Whose glorious heights bring sighs.
Mom, why am I hanging so low
While others soar these moon kissed skies?”

“Shelby, dear, you have forgotten
What you were taught so long ago…
The fact that you shine bright within…
You have that special inward glow.

Our Creator’s more concerned
With what we store on the inside.
Outward appearance sometimes fill
The galaxy with too much pride.

Yes, we’re to shine for our Creator
That is our purpose in this world
But, son, that polished silver sparkle
Cannot be just a front we furl.

Empathy, love, and compassion
Are qualities that still outshine
That desire to dazzle others…
Because you can’t term that sublime.

We were all created different…
Unique in this vast universe…
Created purely for His pleasure…
So let us strive to please Him first!”

“Mother, you’re so filled with knowledge…
Wise beyond your starry light.
I will place your words within me
To enjoy the splendor of this night.”

“Shelby, you have moved The Maker
He’s watching you perform your art.
I’ve heard He whispered to the Angels
You’re a star after His own heart.”

Prompt 13 …Van Vogh

“He counts the number of the stars.
He calls them all by name. “
Psalm 147:4

“Lift up your eyes on high,
And see who has created these things,
Who brings out their hosts by number,
He calls them all by name,
By the greatness of His might
And the strength of His power,
Not one is missing.”
Isaiah 40:26
