 Good Morning

After midnight, tossing and turning
Nightmares churning
Sweat soaked sheets
My life repeats
Mistakes and sin, wrong turns abound
Swallowed by the whale, I can't be found
Fear keeps me in the prison of my past
Attack after attack, all night I am harassed

At 3 am, I bolt upright
My heart is racing, full of fright
My thoughts out of control, a tear in my eye
Praying hopelessly that my past would just die
A glass of water, then a deep breath
I had seen his demented face, the one called death
Settling back into my bed, feeling so alone
Wishing for a way to fully atone

Sleep comes fitfully the rest of the night
Waiting for morning's glorious first light
Birds are chirping, dawn is finally here
My eyes flutter open, waiting for some cheer
Thinking about God's promises and His love
His Son, the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove
Hearing that still, small voice without warning
I love you, my son… it is a good morning
