Belfast, once a mighty industrial city
Dormant now you await the new dawning.
We who know you would never deny you.
Your people toiled from dawn to dusk

Accomplishing through adversity
The strength that makes a city grow in mind and spirit
The heart and soul of your people stand steadfast with you.

Belfast, at times, is cast as a terrible beauty.
Though in its streets walked a proud people.
People such as half timers, who slaved in the mills
Shipbuilders, aircraft builders, engineering workers

A city divided, cut in two by the Lagan's flow.
One side in County Down, the other side in Antrim,
Divis Mountain with its rivers fed the growth of mills.
Now all lie dormant, the industry of Belfast disappeared.

Belfast, the landfall of its lough launched many ships.
Both famous and infamous our veracious city holds all in hock
And they have redeemed themselves many times.

Belfast City, lying smug in its verdant valley
playing host to myriad guests  who  exclaim in wonderment
Upon Castlereagh Hills,  Black Mountain and Cavehill
Whilst we its people play down our pride of Belfast Town.
Our city of wonderment.
