At times his nostrils flared
Like bull caught in a bull pit!
And I still recall his words
Thundering from the pulpit!
“We are all surrounded
By a great cloud of witnesses!
Angels on assignment…
Yet man still suffers sicknesses!”
“Sicknesses of the soul
Defined as doubt and unbelief!
Don’t you know when faced with Jesus
Demons tremble like a leaf!”
“Oh, the devil’s a believer!
Unlike some self proclaiming saint.
Your sins will find you out,” he screamed,
Stop pretending what you ain’t!”
“Sunday saint…Saturday sinner!
Just look up into the air!
Angels witness your wrong doing…
They are stationed everywhere!”
In countless days that followed
My head stayed up in the clouds.
My ten year old perspective
Was uncovering the shrouds.
Now if all clouds hid an angel
Then I must be extra good…
For I knew there had been times
I didn’t act the way I should.
That fiery, Bible waving preacher
Still walks in my memory.
I ‘m convinced I’ll get to Heaven…
He scared the hell right out of me!

(Prompt 14)
“Therefore, we also, since we are
surrounded by so great a cloud of
witnesses, let us lay aside every weight,
and the sin which so easily ensnares us,
and let us run with endurance the race
that is set before us…..”
Hebrews 12:1
“You believe that there is one God.
You do well. Even the demons believe—
and tremble.”
James 2:19
