 Morpheus, My Friend

~~
~ ~ ~

~~~
   ~~
Eddies purled their way down the rippling stream.
Warm country air seemed to cast me in its spell.
I laid down to rest and to await my favorite dream,
Eyes heavy from lack of sleep, into dreamland I fell...
~~~
     ~~
She arrived in the fiery explosion of a newborn day,
Skimming along cloud-tops, rending them asunder
As she approached, banked, then headed my way,
With faraway muffled sounds of rolling thunder....

The sky was bleeding ice cold rain incandescently
Wind slicing like a knife amid howling Banshees
Lightning flashed in my sleepy eyes incessantly
While for me she fulfilled a hundred fantasies...

~~~
     ~~
In the tranquil quietness of a newborn day,
As my world awoke to a fresh set of expectations,
My dream goddess began slowly to fade away,
Taking with her all manner of delectations...
~~~
     ~~

*
I awoke with a start! All had seemed so real!
Waking had stolen my vision from the skyways.
Slowly all came clear, I walked to my window sill,
Wishing fervently once more she would come my way....

~~~
     ~~
Maybe tonight another worthwhile dream will appear.
First I must endure the waking hours of the day,
Then hurry back to dreams of a goddess hovering near,
With me wondering if maybe this time she would stay...
