Mums Lullaby

To my lovely son Donald Gordon Nicolson on this his 35th birthday 10/5/12 Have a wonderful day my son love you always will Mum xxx

We almost lost you bonnie lad
But you were meant to be
Planned by me and by your dad
Right down to a T.
When I saw your dimples clear
I felt so very proud
You looked so much like daddy dear
He shouted it out loud

Then came the fear when you were ill
Your heart would stop and start
They put you in a glass cage
It nearly broke my heart.
But you beat it all my son
I watched each birthday pass
And each new hurdle you had won
My boy`s top of the class

Music was your solace
As I sang you to sleep
Goodnight Me and old Jim Reeves
You didn`t make a peep
You grew up singing sad songs
And loved to tap your feet
At four you played the organ
Music was your street.

It never changed as time went by
Today you play with ease
Write the songs you wish to sing
And other people please
I am so very proud of you
And all you have become
My singing, swinging laddie
My bonnie bonnie son.

Never lose the music
Never stop the dance
Go on playing your guitar
With musics sweet romance
For your soul is music
Its part of all you are
In my mind I hear you sing
My very own wee star

Have a happy day today
And all your dreams come true
From your mum with all her love
These words she sings to you
Another soft sweet lullaby
Just like in days of old
Hear me through the mists of time
Memories made of gold.
