A HYMN TO LORD LAKSHMI NRISIMHA

  ~*~
O Lord Vishnu, who dwells in the Milk Ocean
Who holds the disk of Sun as discus in hand
Whose holy form shines with the ornaments
Set with gems offered by the lord of serpents,
The Lord of yogis and the eternal refuge of sages,
You are a boat to cross the Ocean of existence,
  O Great Lord, Lakshmi Nrisimha!
Grant me protection of Your hands!
  ~*~
O Lord of Lakshmi, whose lotus feet are rendered
Refulgent by the touch of the gem studded crowns
of various gods Brahma, Indra, Rudra, Maruts, and
Fire god, and who is like a Royal Swan sporting
With the lotus like breasts of Goddess Lakshmi,
  O Great Lord, Lakshmi Nrisimha!
Grant me protection of Your hands!
  ~*~
O Lord Hari, my body is like a tree in the forest
Surrounded by fierce flames of Conflagration
It is being scorched by the flames of miseries
Caused by the attractions of worldly existence,
  O Great Lord, Lakshmi Nrisimha!
Grant me protection of Your hands!
  ~*~
O Lord of life, steeped in deep selfish desires,
Engrossed in sensual enjoyments, I became
A fish lying in the mire of the worldly life,
I am pierced by the spear of sorrow,
  O Great Lord, Lakshmi Nrisimha!
Grant me protection of Your hands!
  ~*~
O Lord, I reached the most dangerous deep
At the bottom of the well called worldly life
And being fiercely bitten by poisonous serpents
I am struggling for life with countless troubles
And I reached the state of great wretchedness,
  O Great Lord, Lakshmi Nrisimha!
Grant me protection of Your hands!

  ~*~
The wild elephant of the worldly illusion
Struck me with its trunk; my vital parts
Have been completely crushed; I am suffering
From severe fever on the journey of death,
  O Great Lord, Lakshmi Nrisimha!
Grant me protection of Your hands!
  ~*~
Bitten by terrible fangs of dreadful serpents
Of the worldly existence, I was totally burnt
By their deadly venom, and being destroyed,
O Vishnu, who dwells in the ocean of nectar,
And who rides on the celestial bird Garuda,
  O Great Lord, Lakshmi Nrisimha!
Grant me protection of Your hands!
  ~*~
I climbed the tree of worldly existence:
Its seed is sin; innumerable deeds of my past
Are its branches; parts of my body are its leaves,
The flowers are the results of Venus; At last
It bore all fruits of sorrows! O Merciful One!
I am falling down from the tree very fast
  O Great Lord, Lakshmi Nrisimha!
Grant me protection of Your hands!
  ~*~
In this miserable ocean of relative existence,
I am afflicted by waves of passions and sorrows,
The black deadly crocodile of time caught hold
Of me by feet and eating away my flesh as food
Helpless I am seeking refuge at Your lotus feet,
  O Great Lord Lakshmi Nrisimha!
Grant me protection of Your hands!
  ~*~
I played many a water sport to fulfill my desires
In this ocean of worldly existence out of illusion.
Drowned, I have fallen into an abyss of miseries!
Just as You took the form of Man-Lion, and
Removed the sorrows of Your devotee Prahlada
Save me O Lord! O Treasure of Compassion,
  O Great Lord Lakshmi Nrisimha!
Grant me protection of Your Hands!
  ~*~
Having been caught by the soldiers of Death,
Tied with numerous ropes of worldly attachments,
Being dragged along, by a noose around my neck,
Alone, afraid and amazed, Your protection I seek,
  O Great Lord, Lakshmi Nrisimha!
Grant me protection of your hands!
  ~*~

O Lord of Devas, O Lord of Lakshmi,O Krishna
O Slayer of Madhu,O Madhava, O Knower of Brahman
  O Lotus navelled Janardhana, Kesava,Vasudeva
O Knower of Sacrifice, whose form is of sacrifice,
Who dwells in Vaikunta, the abode of bliss
  O Great Lord, Lakshmi Nrisimha!
Grant me protection of your hands!
  ~*~
O Lord, who holds the discus of Sudarsana
In one hand, who holds the conch in the other hand,
Who embraces the Daughter of Ocean by one hand,
And who holds the blessing gesture in fourth hand
  O Great Lord, Lakshmi Nrisimha!
Grant me protection of your hands!
  ~*~
While wandering in a forest of worldly illusion,
I was haunted by the thieves of sensual passions
And my sense of discrimination has been stolen,
Being blind I fell into a waterless well of passion
Struck by summer I'm crying for a drop of water
  O Great Lord, Lakshmi Nrisimha!
Grant me protection of your Hands!
  ~*~
O Lord, who dwells in the hearts of great sages
Like Prahlada, Narada, Pundarika and Vyasa,
Who loves his devotees and protects them,
And who is a wish yielding tree to His devotees,
  O Great Lord, Lakshmi Nrisimha!
Grant me protection of your Hands!
  ~*~
This prayer which is dedicated to the feet of Lord
Lakshmi Nrisimha, is composed by Sage Sankara,
Like a bee who deeply drinks honey from the lotus feet
Of Lord Vishnu in the form of Lord Laksmi Nrisimha,
Which blesses the earthlings with all good things, and
Those humans who are blessed with devotion to Hari
Will attain the lotus feet of the Brahman!
