THE WRONG SIDE OF THE TRACK
Back when I was just a barefoot boy
My mama sat me down
To warn me of the wickedness
On the sleazy side of town
Mama called that life low living…
Just a lonesome hobo’s hell.
Said all the girls across the track
Were like the Bible’s Jezebel.
It was a nest for lust and liquor…
Where only evil men would dare
To remove their golden wedding bands
To lie with loose girls there.
I always heeded Mama’s warning…
Never did my mind attract
To that seedy, sinful, sordid scene
On the wrong side of the track.
Then on one sultry summer day
After I’d become a man…
I heard a Voice directing me
To persevere to meet His plan.
I tried to tell Him about Mama
But He never even heard…
Said “Take the Gospel across the track
You’ve got to minister My Word.”
You can’t imagine her reaction
When I sat my mama down
And told her I’d been privledged to preach
On the seedy side of town.
Mama makes her Home in Heaven
But her body’s just out back…
Close to the church I’m pastoring
On the wrong side of the track.
