Defeating Nightmares


The Sandman you have detoured

My pillow barbed in wire

You smile at me in visions

Tempting soul to avoid your fire

You have seen my blood on padded walls

Made my hands shake food to the ground

You have offered vacuum for my screams

So that no one hears a sound

You've made me beg for the scraps of others

And made me glad for meat of green

And the scars you laid upon me

You hid when help was mine if seen

You have taken tongue away from me

When you knew words of love I needed

You made me crawl in pain before you

Even though I begged and pleaded

You have cheered me on in suffering

And rejoiced in my pain of loss

You have wanted me to bow to you

No matter of the cost

Well now I stand before you

With fear squashed beneath my feet

I have walked upon your Styx

Your lesser demons I have beat

Look into my eyes

Feel them pierce your sickened mind

Look at the soul behind them

Yes, still mine I think you'll find

I now walk with the Angels

They have seen the good in me

So kneel before me Satan

And only stand when you are free.
