The Butterfly

It was such a joy in the morning to have some comfort in my garden
Taking in the sunlight weeding, water and those roses pruning
There in the glow of the light a beautiful sight caught my eye
Moving from flower to flower was such a beautiful butterfly

As I watch instantly my though was transposed to those boyhood days
How I used to chase the through shrubs, bushes and by those waterways
My brother and I would run after them even in the fading light
Trying to catch them was such as delight, quite forgetting out plight

This task will take us on a journey which was of so many miles
Sometimes getting near but, as the fingers closed, up it flies
How disappointed we would be and there was the defeated gasp
But will continue hoping that another try will put on in our grasp

Running and sweating and often brushing against those leaf hairs
This will most certainly induce and itching in all those exposed areas
And also too some of those plants and flower had an aroma not too pleasant
This of course was certainly present on our body and indeed garment

On those treks home we could see the response of the people
The odor was quite obvious but our enterprise was quite fruitful
They could complain but our hearts were so filled with joy
Because in our little container we had such a beautiful butterfly

So, today as I looked at that one it brought back that memory
How I had to chase them for miles through cane fields and shrubbery
Now today being in the fast paced technological hour and of course era
It was quite convenient to go inside and capture it on my digital camera.
