Stepping Stones
Jumped across some stepping stones today
And only touched the water once
So different from the earlier years
When I nearly drowned
Jumping is a little easier now
I’m not just jumping in the dark
Some light is shed on smaller stones
The ones that fill the cracks
I’ll always miss the odd one
Maybe more at times
But I know where all the big ones are
I have them fixed within my mind
I was once told where they were
But had to find them on my own
Wet feet on cold days
Used to make me feel alone
But my feet are mostly dry now
And at times my mind slows down
Still need to find more small ones
But with friends they will be found.
I know I’ll never find them all
And I don’t really mind
I have just learned to appreciate
Every one of them I find
