A nation carried on the backs
Of brave warriors laid to rest
  Needs to kneel in memoriam
In honor of their country's best.

  Many soldiers would be shocked
To see things they fought for stray
So far from God and Country
That the Eagle has to pray.

If the flag still stands for freedom,
Then why must it be a shame
To show it off on a lapel pin
Or to hang it in a frame?

  Every flagpole in America
  Should be flying colors proud.
She's a symbol of the USA...
She should stand out in a crowd!

  She went before George Washington
All the way to Viet Nam.
She flew in fervor in Iraq...
  So ardent in Afghanistan.

  Once being an American
  Meant belonging to a nation
Whose money read "In God We Trust"
  And really meant that declaration.

  Being politically incorrect
  Doesn't carry too much weight...
But can the scales be balanced
In total fairness here of late?

  Patriotic people like myself
Never thought we'd see the day
When we'd slip so far away from God
That the Eagle has to pray!
