The Happy State
Bless whoever is forgiven,
And whose sin that has been pardoned;
It is a reward from Heaven,
Their heart is no longer hardened.
Bless whoever no more accused,
Having sin with a deceitful thought;
For now he has gone and refused,
All the pleasures that once were sought.
When I was silent of my sin,
My bones were weak all day I moan;
Because the corruption within,
The pain just was making me groan.
Day and night His hand lay on me,
My strength shriveled from summer heat;
But whence confessed then I could see,
Strength returning within my feet.
No longer am I feeling grim,
Letting my guilt and sins be known;
Because my confession to Him,
Putting back strength into each bone.
All godly people pray to God,
He will be willing to forgive;
While giving honor and laud,
For a free conscience you can live.
Surround yourself with joyous songs,
No more needing a hiding place;
No longer agony prolongs,
Because the Lord has shed His grace.
