 once upon a time

The eternal flame has been confined to the past
In the Kazakh city of Semey the people asked why?
It was supposed to burn forever, ach well
The council owed a six thousand pounds gas bill.
Had to turn it off. It’s like this
That infernal, sorry, eternal flame was burning a hole in our gas pockets

Do you imagine that we care about your young men and women?
Especially those who cast away their lives in the Patriotic War. .
Today we wage the war of consumerism
Choking uncaringly  on avarice.

Pay!  Pay your way and we shall restore your eternal flame
But remember, our greed is eternal and we control the gas
Forget the past. Today is all we care about
And we regulate  the eternal flame.
