 Details

The Devil was in the details, I don't know how he got there!
He was rummaging through every thought I ever had.
Yes, the Devil was in the details, he had found a spot there!
Some of my thoughts must have been rather bad...

I have had many a thought about many a thing;
Never a thought about the trouble they'd bring.
I suppose most of them had a rather hollow ring.
I know none of them would make an angel sing.

There was no brimstone, no nearby lake of fire!
Just the Devil playing around inside my head.
He was there to pull me down, not take me higher!
With a mile long list of all the things I ever said...

There is indeed many a slip between cup and lip
Even if you only thought you might take a tiny sip
It doesn't take much to make one lose their grip
Starting them on a long and winding downward trip.

Run along, Lord of the Flies, get the devil out of here!
I've got enough problems, don't want you snooping around.
I need to work on keeping my head more level and clear!
Take your own self lower while I climb to higher ground...

So, trip it lightly as you go, think things over nice and slow.
Water the grass most every day, DON'T let the weeds grow.
Watch the path you take and the direction that you go.
Try your best to be a little bit nicer to people you know....

The Devil is in the bushes waiting to pounce on you.
Give him an inch and he will take away your smile.
Yes, the Devil is in the bushes waiting to trounce on you.
He can be a nice guy. He'll take you to Hell in style....
