When Grief is Good

Standing alone, unimagined pain of loss

The world devoid of light and warmth

Every fibre of your being tortured

No money could change the way you feel, it has infinite cost

The trees have no leaves on in Spring

The leaves that drop in Fall are black

The wind cuts you in two

And rain an icy sting

Snow of Winter is but slush

Not crisp and able to be molded into balls of fun

The snowman's carrot withered

Eyes stare at you coal black and thoughts are that of gun

Where are all the people

It's like the world has burst

Why do I not taste my food

Why doesn't water quench my thirst

Grief can drag us screaming

Down upon our knees

Suck tears from our eyes

And make warm heart and soul curl up and freeze

But it is only when we have been there

And made our way back into the light

That we can offer words to soothe

Someone else's plight

Therapeutic books are written

We've probably all held one in our hands

But there is nothing that helps us recover more

Than looking into the eyes of someone who truly understands

When no words are spoken but a million thoughts are shared.
