A photo from the past

Out of the blue yonder a photo from days long gone,
Sights of old school friends with old memories spawn,
Those baggy short trousers, half socks and skinned knees,
Standing quietly to attention, our class teachers to please,

Old faces still familiar, but their names hard to recall,
Self driven to find out as through my memories I trawl,
Wondering what happened to them, I've long lost touch,
I can remember a small fraction but forgetting so much,

Our primary school days with minds inquisitive and keen,
We were living for the moment with our futures yet unseen,
In our childhood innocence we shared with each other a bond,
Blissfully unaware of people or places that waited beyond,

I wonder who they are now, as I ponder what happened to me,
What kind of destiny befell them, what did providence decree,
I hope they chose a direction, and achieved what they sought,
Some may have been cast by the wayside, what life to you brought
